How to Turn Your Home into a Personal Branding Photo Backdrop

One of the questions you’re going to ask yourself when planning your personal branding photo session is where to have it. You may be racking your brain for ideas, not knowing that your home can make for the perfect backdrop. So many entrepreneurs have been working at home since 2020, which means their space at home is actually the ideal location for a shoot. Shooting in your home can still look professional. Plus, you are giving your audience some deeper insights into who you are as a person.

Where to Shoot In Your Home

When deciding where to set up for your personal branding session, ask yourself which area of your home will tell your story the best and help your audience relate to you the most. Walk yourself through your day in your head and make a note of the spots you spend the most time in. Do you go straight to your home office, or do you spend your mornings with a cup of coffee in your sunroom first? What are your favorite spots in your home and why? Answering these questions is what’s going to help you start building your personal branding story and the shot list for your session.

Getting Your Home Ready

Many people are worried their homes are just too messy or personal to be a good backdrop. However, this isn’t the case – you just need some time to prepare.

- Don’t make your home look staged. While you do want your home to be tidy, you don’t want it to look like a staged space. The point of a personal branding session is to show your audience a little more of who you are. No massive spring clean is required prior to your session.

- Keep colors in mind. Choosing a color palette is an important part of planning your personal branding shoot. Before you settle on a color palette, take your décor, the rooms you plan to shoot in, and your outfits into consideration. Your photographer can help you with this if need be.

- Clear away the clutter. As much as you want your home to showcase who you are, clutter is a big no-no. Cluttered desks and countertops will only take the focus away from you, so pack away any unnecessary items before your shoot.

- Opt for natural light. Lastly, when selecting the rooms you want to shoot in, prioritize the areas that have the most natural light. This will help create the best possible photos.

In closing, you don’t need to hire a high-end studio or fancy space to create eye-catching personal branding photos – your home is the perfect backdrop.
